A diamond from peanut butter?

Geophysicist Dan Frost did experiment with peanut butter as a carbon source for diamond synthesis in a multi-anvil press. This was an unusual demonstration within mantle-material research, not a direct recreation of every lower-mantle condition. Popular retellings often conflate experimental parameters with geological context: more than 2,200°C and about 1.3 million atmospheres describe approximate conditions associated with natural deep diamond formation, not necessarily the exact peanut-butter run. The process took weeks and yielded a tiny sample; carbon came from the butter after its complex molecules broke down.
