An ant's strength

Some ants can carry loads many times heavier than themselves. The popular “50 times” figure is an upper estimate for certain ants and conditions, not a capacity shared by every ant. In a study of leaf-cutter ants (Atta), measured maximum load-carrying ability reached about 8.8 times body mass.
