Ethics and Record Rules

AI-generated cover symbolizing record ethics with a healthy cat, blank open book, globe and unlit lantern; no record attempt is shown. Prompt: “Photorealistic vertical 4:5 editorial cover about ethical rules for record attempts. On a quiet desk, an open blank rulebook beside a healthy domestic cat resting calmly and an unlit sky lantern, with a globe and pen suggesting animal welfare and environmental care. Neutral thoughtful mood. Do not show animal overfeeding or a lantern launch. No readable text, logos, Guinness branding or people.” Generated 20 October 2026.

AI-generated unlit paper lantern in a garden setting, used as a quiet environmental-care illustration; no launch or event depicted. Prompt: “Photorealistic vertical 4:5 editorial still life illustrating environmental care around sky lantern traditions: a folded, unlit paper lantern resting on a clean wooden table outdoors beside green leaves and a reusable basket, calm dusk garden in background. No one is launching it, no fire, no litter or wildlife. Generic illustrative context, no text, logos or event branding.” Generated 20 October 2026.

AI-generated healthy domestic cat beside a modest food portion, illustrating ordinary responsible pet care; not a record attempt. Prompt: “Photorealistic vertical 4:5 editorial image about responsible pet care: a healthy adult domestic cat calmly beside a small measured portion of food in a plain bowl, in a clean home. Guinness World Records reviews which records it monitors when attempts could encourage harm. In 1998, editors discontinued the heaviest-pets category to discourage owners from overfeeding animals. For environmental reasons, it also retired from monitoring the record for launching the most sky lanterns at once. Discontinuing a category means new results in it are no longer monitored; by itself, it does not automatically cancel every title awarded earlier.
