Fact 1004 — Snake Island

Snake Island (Zmiinyi), in the northwestern Black Sea, lies about 37 km east of the Kiliia mouth of the Danube. Its area is about 20 hectares (0.20 km²), not 1.5 km²: reference sources give 19.8–20.5 hectares, with figures differing in how steep coastal slopes are counted.
