The legend of Chaplin's look-alike

A popular story says Charlie Chaplin anonymously entered a look-alike contest and came third. The Chaplin Archive traces an early version to a 1918 newspaper retelling that placed him twentieth; there is no independent confirmation that he entered at all. It is an entertaining legend, not an established fact.
