State religion, national church and religious majority are not interchangeable categories. The Church of England is established in England, but that does not make Anglicanism the single state religion throughout the United Kingdom. A parliamentary briefing separately describes the Church of Scotland and its relationship with the state. International comparisons require precise legal categories and territories.
