Football in Greenland

Greenland’s climate makes natural grass difficult to grow and shortens the football season, but this is not an established reason for its non-membership in FIFA. FIFA permits artificial turf certified under its quality programme; Nuuk’s stadium has had such a surface since 2016. Greenland’s route to FIFA membership runs through the confederations and their membership criteria: UEFA requires an independent state, while CONCACAF rejected Greenland’s application in June 2025 without publishing a detailed explanation.
