Lip patterns
AI-generated anonymous close-up of natural lip folds. OpenAI image generation, 2026-10-28. Prompt: Photorealistic editorial macro portrait focused on natural human lips with subtle visible lines and folds, neutral skin tones, clean soft studio light, tasteful medical science article cover, no makeup shine, no text, labels, logos, watermark, or collage; anonymous generic person not identifiable. Illustrative only; not forensic evidence.
Lips have folds and grooves that form individual patterns. They are studied in forensic science under the name cheiloscopy, but unlike fingerprint examination, methods for developing and comparing lip prints are not yet standardized. Pattern similarity may therefore be a supporting clue, but claiming that lip prints are as reliable for identification as fingerprints would overstate the evidence.
