In the final years of his life, Stanisław Lem had diabetes and circulatory problems. A biography on Lem’s official website says that several weeks before his death he was hospitalized with symptoms of kidney failure and pneumonia. Lem’s secretary told the Associated Press that the writer died in Kraków on 27 March 2006 from heart failure. The sources report these conditions but do not establish that each one caused his death.
