IBM Watson for Oncology was developed as a clinical decision-support system for oncologists. It compared case information with a curated body of medical literature and guidelines, then offered treatment options labeled recommended, for consideration, or not recommended. It was not an autonomous diagnosis: the clinician retained the decision. So the claim that it independently searched all medical literature worldwide and determined a prognosis overstates its role.
