Monaco’s Carabiniers
Ceremonial guard duty is only one role of Monaco’s Prince’s Carabiniers. The government’s *Monaco in Figures 2024* says the company has 124 military personnel: it protects the Sovereign Prince and his family, guards the Palace and its grounds, provides ceremonial services, and helps maintain public order. The commonly repeated figure of “about 65” is outdated or refers to a different establishment. In a UN report, Monaco said it has no armed or military forces in the traditional sense; the Carabiniers and firefighters together make up the Principality’s Public Force. [1–3]
