Biomimicry and bird wings
Biomimicry (bio-inspired design) uses biological structures and processes as inspiration for engineering solutions. For example, the serrated edges of owl feathers have been studied and reproduced in models of wings and other aerodynamic surfaces, including to reduce noise. This does not mean conventional airplanes simply copy whole bird wings. [1–3]
