Parachute in a 15th-century manuscript

One of the earliest known parachute designs appears in an Italian engineering manuscript from the 1470s. It shows a conical canopy, crossbar, and four straps attached to a waist belt. The manuscript is held by the British Library; the drawing’s author is unknown. There is no evidence the design was tested at the time.
