Europe’s peninsulas

Europe is often called a “peninsula of peninsulas.” National Geographic lists the Scandinavian, Jutland, Iberian, Italian, and Balkan peninsulas among its main peninsulas; Crimea is also a peninsula on the northern Black Sea. The claim that peninsulas make up about a quarter of Europe’s area appears as an estimate, but the share depends on which land projections and boundaries are counted; it is not a uniquely defined measurement.
