Earthquakes happen every day
Earthquakes occur far more than 50,000 times a year worldwide. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates about 500,000 earthquakes annually are detectable by instruments; about 100,000 are felt by people, and around 100 cause damage. So 50,000 is an underestimate, though the “more than” claim is correct.
Instruments detect about 500,000 earthquakes worldwide each year.
