When a carrot counts as fruit in law

Carrots did not become fruit botanically or stop being vegetables in Europe. The EU jam rule says only that, for the purposes of that directive, carrots count as fruit—allowing them to be used in fruit jams under the specified standards. The current directive dates to 2001; the source fact’s “1991” date was not verified.

In the jam law, carrots count as “fruit” only for that directive.
