In 1948, the journal *Życie Nauki* published an unsigned review titled “Genetics and Biology in the USSR,” later attributed to Stanisław Lem. Lem later recalled that he had edited reports about Trofim Lysenko’s dispute with Soviet geneticists in a way that looked “tendentious,” and called Lysenko’s doctrine nonsense. He said the episode had unpleasant consequences for the journal; sources do not support the claim that Lem was expelled from the scientific community.
