Do squirrels plant more trees than people?

In some squirrel species, storing acorns and nuts helps disperse seeds: animals bury individual caches, and some seeds are left unused and may germinate. But the claim that a squirrel “plants more trees in its lifetime than the average person” has no defined counting method or reliable comparative study behind it. Squirrels also retrieve many caches, while other seeds are eaten or fail to germinate. It is an interesting ecological role, not a verified numerical record.

Unretrieved caches can help trees spread, but the comparison with people is unverified.
