How a Scout Spotted Jennifer Lawrence

A chance encounter in New York helped Jennifer Lawrence take her first steps toward film work. When she was 14, a scout spotted her in Union Square during a trip with her mother and suggested she meet agents for auditions. Lawrence said she was already bitten by the acting bug at the time. She had no formal professional acting training, although she had taken school theater classes, so the story is best described as an early discovery rather than a complete lack of experience.
