How large is UY Scuti?

UY Scuti was once widely described as the largest known star: a 2013 study estimated its radius at 1,708 ± 192 solar radii. That figure depends on the adopted distance to the star. A later Gaia parallax estimate gave a much smaller distance and, consequently, a smaller calculated radius. UY Scuti is therefore one of the exceptionally large known stars, but neither its record nor its exact size is settled beyond doubt.
