Johnny Depp and character design

Johnny Depp has helped shape the appearance of some of his screen characters through clothing and accessories. For example, he linked Tonto’s look in *The Lone Ranger* to Kirby Sattler’s painting *I Am Crow* and developed the character’s hat from that motif. Depp also proposed details for Captain Jack Sparrow’s look in collaboration with the costume team. These examples show his creative input on particular roles, but do not establish that he always carries hats, glasses, and accessories that “often” generate new characters.
