Dziga Vertov’s Enthusiasm: Symphony of the Donbas was made in 1930 and released in 1931. The Encyclopedia of Ukraine and the VUFKU archive identify it as the first Ukrainian sound film; its soundtrack combines industrial and everyday recordings. Charlie Chaplin praised this work with sound.
