On 15 November 2017, *Salvator Mundi* sold at Christie’s in New York for a record price at the time. The hammer price—the final bid before fees—was exactly $400 million; the total including the buyer’s premium was $450,312,500. Christie’s presented the panel as a work by Leonardo da Vinci, but scholars do not fully agree on its authorship: some consider it a workshop painting or allow for the participation of pupils.
