A little wonder, every day

Several yolks inside one shell

A hen egg can occasionally contain two or more yolks: several yolks can enter the oviduct close together and become enclosed in one shell. This does not imply the same number of viable chicks. Guinness records a report of nine yolks in one hen egg from a New York farm in July 1971. It is a dated recorded case, rather than a usual yolk count or a record we independently verified as current today.
