a legendary discus throw

The claim that the Greek athlete Protesilaus threw a discus 46 m around 600 BCE and held a record until 1928 is not supported as a historical sports record. Protesilaus is best known as a hero of Greek mythology; the later writer Flavius Philostratus described his extraordinary feats in a literary work. Olympedia records Bud Houser’s 47.32 m winning throw at the 1928 Olympics and notes that the world record at the time was 48.20 m.

An ancient legendary hero and a modern sports record belong to different categories.
