Bulls do not perceive red the way humans do

Does red itself really irritate a bull? Not in the way people often imagine. Studies of cattle vision show dichromatic color vision: cattle distinguish fewer color differences than humans and are less able to tell red from green. This does not mean they cannot detect red light at all. In a bullfight, the bull responds primarily to the cloth’s movement and the situation, not to a special “red rage.”
