Antarctic midge

The wingless midge *Belgica antarctica* is the largest animal that lives permanently on land in Antarctica. An adult is about 3 mm long and a mature larva about 6–7 mm, so the source list’s 1.3 cm figure does not match typical measurements. There are no ant species native to the continent.
