Malevich’s Kyiv laboratory
Титульна AI-згенерована ілюстрація / AI-generated cover illustration. Symbolic reconstruction of a Kyiv experimental art classroom around 1929, abstract color studies and geometric plaster forms; not an identified room or portrait.
In the late 1920s, Kazimir Malevich taught at the Kyiv Art Institute and developed plans for a Research Cabinet there. It was intended for studying new art and how to teach it, rather than simply functioning as a conventional painting studio. Documents about his work in 1929–1930 were preserved by his assistant and fellow teacher Marian Kropyvnytskyi.
The materials became known to researchers in late 2015 and helped reconstruct a poorly documented part of the artist’s biography. Kyiv emerges as a place of teaching, theoretical discussion and artistic experimentation. Teaching there should not itself be turned into a claim that he permanently moved to the city.
