Fact 1103 — Sahara and Europe

The Sahara covers about 9.1 million km², while Europe covers about 9.95 million km² under the CIA World Factbook’s continental division. The Sahara is therefore comparable in area to Europe, but somewhat smaller. The comparison depends on how Europe and the desert region are delineated. [1–2]
