The Nile system rises in the region of the equatorial Great Lakes and runs north to the Mediterranean, crossing tropical and arid latitudes. This is a striking course, but not a unique direction: rivers flow in all compass directions according to the terrain.
The Nile connects equatorial lakes with the Mediterranean.
