Do goldfish fade without light?

A goldfish may become paler after prolonged insufficient light, but it is not guaranteed to turn completely white. Color is also affected by genetics, age, husbandry, and dietary pigments; studies link lighting and background conditions to changes in goldfish coloration and pigment cells. Fish need a normal day–night cycle, not continuous darkness.
