Suriname: a small country with extensive forest cover
Suriname is the smallest sovereign country in South America by area, at just under 165,000 km². Equatorial tropical forest covers a large share of the country. The Government of Suriname reports about 93% forest cover; the World Bank/FAO indicator likewise shows that forests cover the great majority of its territory. This statistical measure follows the FAO definition of forest and does not mean all of it is untouched jungle.
