By 2022, NASA had invested approximately $118 billion in the development and operation of the International Space Station, according to NASA’s inspector general. The amount also includes spending on the earlier Space Station Freedom project, Space Shuttle flights and the Commercial Crew Program. It is an estimate of the U.S. investment alone, not the full contributions of all international partners; the figures are not adjusted for inflation. Separately, NASA spent about $3 billion per year on ISS operations from 2013 through 2023.
