The first fee for the Nike logo
Graphic designer Carolyn Davidson was paid $35 for her initial work on the Swoosh in 1971. But that is not the whole story: in 1983, Nike gave her a gold ring with a diamond and company stock. So “only $35” describes the initial fee, not her total compensation.
The initial fee was $35; she later received stock and a ring.
