Ukraine established its own currency production in stages. The Banknote Printing Factory’s first printing line was ceremonially commissioned on March 22, 1994. The first phase of the Mint officially entered service on April 23, 1998. Banknote printing and coin minting therefore have different opening dates: they are separate production processes with different machinery. [1, 2]

The start of mint production should be distinguished from the formation of the combined enterprise. The Banknote Printing and Minting Works began operating as an organization on October 1, 1994. Having that enterprise in place did not mean that all its production lines were already running. [1, 2]
