Nelumbo nucifera flowers can generate heat and maintain a relatively stable temperature during a particular flowering phase. In a physiological study, flowers stayed around 30–36 °C for two to four days while ambient temperatures ranged roughly from 10 to 45 °C. This is not a year-round temperature of the whole plant or a constant exact 30 °C.
