The panda's bamboo diet

Giant pandas spend much of their time eating bamboo and may consume dozens of kilograms a day. Although they belong to the order Carnivora, their digestive system remains more like that of a carnivore than an herbivore and processes fibrous bamboo inefficiently. Pandas therefore need large quantities of food, and their survival depends on conserving suitable bamboo forests and connected habitat.
