Europe’s distance from the sea
The claim that no point in Europe lies more than 1,000 km from a coast needs qualification. A geospatial analysis of remote inhabited places found one Russian settlement near the Urals 1,559 km from the nearest coast when the Caspian Sea was excluded from the marine coastline. Counting the Caspian as coastline would change the result; both Europe’s boundaries and what counts as a “sea” must be specified. Thus 1,000 km is not an unconditional universal limit.
Distance to the sea depends on what counts as a sea.
