Kazimir Malevich’s father, Severyn, managed work at sugar factories; these assignments meant the family moved frequently among Ukrainian towns and villages. In his memoirs, the artist wrote that his father was displeased by his interest in art and wanted him to follow a practical occupation. The more precise description is a sugar-factory manager or specialist, rather than simply an “engineer at a plant.”
