Massive stars live fast
In general, more massive stars live for less time than lower-mass stars. Their luminosity rises faster than their supply of nuclear fuel, so they consume it more rapidly. This is a broad pattern of stellar evolution; the duration of particular phases also depends on a star’s mass, composition, and evolutionary stage.
