Fact 1101 — Siberian forests
The claim that Siberia contains more than a quarter of the world’s forests is not supported by the sources checked here. A scientific review, citing FAO 2020, gives all of Russia 815 million hectares of forest—about 23% of the global area. An older World Bank estimate separately assigns 318 million hectares to Siberia and 279 million to the Far East. These figures do not support more than 25% for Siberia alone. [1–2]
