Robin Williams improvised in *Aladdin*

Robin Williams did have room to improvise while recording the Genie for Disney’s *Aladdin* (1992). Director Ron Clements said the studio allowed most of Williams’s improvised scenes to remain, and a Los Angeles Times report described him as a kind of co-author of the comic character. But the claim that most of his lines across his films were improvised is too broad: there is no reliable count covering all his roles, and writers prepared the story and material that Williams expanded in the studio.

Williams improvised as the Genie, but the broader claim about most lines in all his films is overstated.
