A prize buried in a PC Pitstop license

In 2005, PC Pitstop temporarily added a $1,000 reward clause to an end-user license agreement for one of its products. The first user to notice the clause and contact the company would receive the prize. According to the company’s account, it took about five months and more than 3,000 sales/downloads (retellings vary in how they count units). Doug Heckman was the first winner. It was a publicity experiment, not proof that literally nobody reads agreements.
