the Bohr brothers and football

Niels Bohr played goalkeeper for the Danish club Akademisk Boldklub, while his younger brother Harald was a mathematician, a club footballer, and a player for Denmark’s national team. When Harald defended his doctoral thesis in 1910, newspaper accounts reportedly said the hall held more football fans than mathematicians. Biographical sources repeat this detail with reference to contemporary newspapers, so it is best treated as an anecdotal report rather than a precise audience count. The illustration is AI-generated.
