Is Qatar the richest country?

The claim depends on what “richest” means. Qatar has one of the world’s highest GDP-per-capita figures, especially at purchasing-power parity, but current rankings do not put it unambiguously first. IMF 2026 projections place Qatar roughly among the top seven by GDP per capita at PPP; its nominal GDP per capita ranks lower. Qatar is not the world’s largest economy by total GDP either. More precise: it is one of the richest countries by per-capita measures.
