Eye color in newborns

Not all babies are born with blue eyes. In a study of 192 newborns, 63% had brown eyes, about 21% blue, and the rest had another or indeterminate color. Eye-color frequencies vary across populations; some infants’ irises may change color as melanin develops.

Newborn eye color varies with iris pigmentation.
