Archimedes and the cry of "Eureka!"

According to the Roman writer Vitruvius, Archimedes noticed while bathing that an immersed body displaced water. He supposedly used the observation to test a king’s crown and ran from the bath shouting “Eureka!”—“I have found it!” This famous ancient story was written down centuries after Archimedes lived; it is not a directly witnessed account.
