Preschoolers ask a lot—not "450 a day"

Preschoolers do ask many questions as they explore the world. But figures such as 390, 437, or 450 questions per day mostly come from media-reported parent surveys or commercial studies, often with different samples, age groups, and counting methods. They should not be treated as a universal average for every four-year-old. Question frequency varies with the child, situation, and what is counted as a question.
