Obninsk’s reactor produced 30 MW of heat and 5 MW of electricity

The AM-1 reactor at the Obninsk nuclear power station had a thermal output of about 30 megawatts and an electrical output of 5 megawatts. These are different quantities: the reactor supplied heat, part of which a turbine generator converted into electricity.
