Arctic sea ice

Submarine measurements indicate that mean Arctic sea-ice thickness fell by about 1.25 m between a peak around 1980 and a minimum in 2000. This summarizes a sample of submarine tracks; it does not mean a uniform 1.2 m decline everywhere or an exact endpoint-to-endpoint trend across all of 1975–2000.

Submarine sonar tracked the changing ice thickness.
